Am primit urmatorul mail de la dna prof. dragan:

De vazut pt seminarul de morfologie o sa ne vedem abia
in noiembrie. Cursul voi il faceti cu Anca Sevcenco
care este plecata acum si care va reveni in tara pe 21
octombrie. In concluzie, veti avea curs cred ca pe 23,
prima data dupa 21 cand se intoarce si cu mine seminar
prima data cand avem oficial dupa 1 noiembrie.

hai s-o luam logic. profesoara de la curs se intoarce saptamana viitoare, cea de la seminar in noiembrie. maine ar trebui sa avem curs, nu facem. sapt viitoare (24) ar trebui sa avem seminar, deci nu facem. inteleg deci ca vom avea curs pe 31. (sper ca am socotit corect, daca vi se pare ca nu, speak up)

Ok, people might already know this but:

- we are going to have a brand-new American Studies undergraduate journal!!! i'll be e-mailing everyone so we can decide on a first meeting!

- the American Studies internships will be posted soon (read in about two weeks' time...)

- we're starting an American film night, so we are now officially waiting for proposals. What do you think it should look like? What kind of films should we be showing? Considering that most films can now be downloaded and watched in the comfort of our own homes, what can this film night bring that's new and exciting and may make people want to come and bring popcorn?

Alright so for the Film night we should some flicks from the masters, like Welles's Citizen Kane or Touch of evil or The trial, maybe a Chaplin, any Chaplin, cause a Chaplin always suits everyone, and some other thing ones like Spike Lee's Do the right thing, or maybe Gus van sant's my own private idaho or good will hunting both nice movies, or even Elephant it didn't won the palme d'or for nothing did it? like mungiu :-" or the most recent paranoid park, that'd be nice, now anything from scorosese but maybe insisting on less known work like the temptation of the chirst or kundun. a woody allen will be absolut Manhattan or Annie Hall for "the virgins" in woody allen, now you can bring movies of foreign directors who made them in english like milos forman's amadeus, hair, one flew over a cuckoo's nest, and also some of polanski's, these are a few...i'll think about others and let you know

andrei, i do love most of your suggestions, those i've watched that is...and of course i was just teasing about chaplin, he's very close to perfect...until you've watched Keaton that is:)

Ruxitos read my topic california dreamin' is there, well yes he is close to perfect until i watch keaton and realise that chaplin's definitely ireproșabil (ah and one little thing who do i think i found on nelson's syllabus? not keaton of course but chaplin's modern times, he he he)

now other suggestions: Herzog's Stroszek to see other people's perception on america, and some from david lynch maybe the elephant man we don't actually want to scare ppl off with eraserhead or mullholand dr though they'd be nice
ah and another director would be nice, Bob Fosse, you know, all that jazz, lenny or cabaret and if we're still at this topic to be or not to be

Chaplin (unlike keaton) as i said earlier suits everyone it has drama, it has comedy, trust me, i've brought chaplin to an american pie public and they were so amazed i brought them the kid, and they laught and they were impressed, and almost everyone of them thank me afterwards so...

and how could i forget it? the wonderful Everything is illuminated after Jonathan Safran Foer's book with wonderful acting from Gogol Bordello's frontman Eugene Hutz, and the naive looking Elijah Wood, it's very interesting to see the two cultures together...and Liev Schrieber did justice to the book, and the music is...just wow...from the harsh sound of leningrad to the delicate violins of tin hat trio or csokolom the music makes the beautiful imagery get to you, and the approach on the movie is very chaplin-like (and that says about all that can be said - and of course if it had been very keaton-like nobody would have watched it ;)))

or we can have such classics like A streetcar named desire, or Who's afraid of Virgina Woolf, though i preffer the latter, or maybe Rebel without a cause (not really my cup of tea but not that bad) and the only accetable Kubrick film: Dr.Strangelove and we can also see some from Mel Brooks he's nice and entertaining

why don't we watch some of the recent good movies.. don't get me wrong, i like oldies, but i'm more into new.. like Eagle Eye, Meet Dave and other kickass titles.. bring on the new stuff already..

Sorry it was we i misspelled it, the thing with the recent movies is that you can always download it from the internet which you actually do cause you always want to see the latest movie, or go to any cinema and see them, i think we should see films that changed something at some point, that have a segnificance in certain area at a certain time, message, the impact on the public, film tehniques, etc etc, we should watch movies more attentivley...not just for fast feedback (no pun intedent ruxitos) and entertainment

thing is you can always watch them in cinema with how many ppl you like, but you can suggest anyway the more the better
